Documentation / JustNow Scheduler

Scheduler

Automatic backups, retention rules, scheduled database cleanup and serialize repair.

Requirements

JustNow Backups must be installed with an active Pro license, and the Scheduler add-on must be included in your license. Menu: JustNow Backups → Scheduler.

Creating a job

  1. Give it a name (optional) and choose the task type.
  2. Choose the schedule: every N hours, daily, weekly, monthly or one-off (a specific date and time). Times use your site's time zone. For a monthly job, months without day 29–31 use the last day of the month.
  3. Set the task's own options and save. The next run time appears in the list.
  4. To try it, click Run the job now.

Up to 30 jobs can be defined. Disabled jobs stay in the list but do not run.

Task types

Take a backup

Takes a backup with the content you choose (database, media, plugins, themes…). After the backup, the package is verified (does the zip open, is the database dump present). If verification fails, older backups are not deleted. If Remote Storage is installed, a Send to remote storage step can be added after the backup.

Database cleanup

Runs the selected cleanup tasks (task list). Deleted items cannot be recovered.

Serialize repair

Scan and notify only or Scan and repair. Repaired records are fixed with undo data.

Retention rule

Two rules can be combined in a backup task: keep the last N backups and delete backups older than X days. A backup is deleted by whichever rule it hits first; 0 turns a rule off.

  • Deletion goes from oldest to newest; the newest backup is never deleted.
  • The rule applies only to backups taken by that task; it never touches backups you took manually.

Notifications, catch-up and disk protection

  • Email notification: a summary email on errors and warnings only (recommended) or after every run.
  • Catch up missed runs: a job that missed its time by more than 30 minutes runs once at the first opportunity. When off, the missed run is skipped until the next time.
  • Disk protection: a backup is not started if free space is less than about 1.3 times the last backup (100 MB for the first backup). The reason is written to the history.
  • If another backup is running, the job is retried 10 minutes later.
When the license expiresYour jobs and settings are not deleted, they just do not run. A run in progress is closed as “Stopped”. When you renew, jobs continue on schedule.

Background check (WP-Cron)

The Scheduler uses WordPress's WP-Cron system, which is triggered when someone visits the site. On low-traffic sites a job may be delayed. If the Last background check indicator on the page has not updated for a long time, ask your host for a real cron job:

*/5 * * * * wget -q -O - https://yoursite.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron >/dev/null 2>&1

You can then add define( 'DISABLE_WP_CRON', true ); to wp-config.php.
